To understand how pressure ulcers develop and develop skills in assessment and implementation of preventative strategies.

  • Identify with the structure and function of skin in relation to pressure ulcer prevention
  • Classify pressure ulcers in conjunction with national guidance
  • Differentiate between pressure ulcers and moisture lesions
  • Consider how pressure ulcers develop
  • Recognise the legal implications of pressure ulcer development and experience a Coronerís Court scenario
  • Appreciate the value of accurate risk assessment
  • Recognise the importance of record keeping
  • Identify with the role of Registered Nurses in planning preventative care and the role of both Registered Nurses and Assistant Health Practitioners in implementing care to ensure effective prevention of pressure ulcers
