OVERVIEW

Course participants will gain a better understanding of patients presenting with self harm and suicidal thoughts.

After completion of the course, you will be able to identify risks and assist patients by providing appropriate care and support, referring them to the correct services for ongoing treatment.

This course has a multidisciplinary approach and will be attended by Nurses, Doctors, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and anyone who comes into contact with people with Self Harm or Suicidal thoughts.

What is self harm?

How to identify and assess self harm.

Risk assessment and care for self harm patients.

Differences and similarities of self harm and suicide.

How to assess suicidal thoughts.

How to support the suicidal patient.

Referral process and providing support with a care service provision in your area.

  • To know what types of self harm there are and their causes.
  • To know what can be done to help and support people who self harm or have suicidal ideation.
  • To be aware of useful interventions for working with people who self harm.
