OVERVIEW

This course is aimed at health and social care staff who are both registered and unregistered, who work with or support individuals where safeguarding concerns are a possibility.

The course aims to increase knowledge and support in managing safeguarding concerns.

CONTENT

  • An outline of the main principles of safeguarding
  • The legal framework considering and discussing the main legislation including the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Care Act.
  • The main types of abuse and how to recognise and manage concerns
  • The practical management and impact of safeguarding on the individual and the healthcare professional
  • Further exploration and discussion with the use of case studies

AIMS AND OUTCOMES

  • To understand the main principles of safeguarding with consideration of the legal framework and professional responsibilities
  • To build knowledge and confidence to recognise and act on safeguarding concerns in adults.
  • Recognise evidence and indicators of abuse
  • Recognise factors which may increase the risk of abuse
  • Know how to report concerns about abuse and how to take appropriate action to enable you to protect individuals who are at risk of harm or abuse
