OVERVIEW

 

A course aimed at Nurses who are actively involved in the care of patients with implantable cardiac devices. The course will provide the Nurse with the essential underpinning knowledge to effectively manage a patient throughout the life cycle of pacemaker / implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).

The course will also be of interest to other Allied Health Professionals such as Radiographers and Junior Doctors.

 

CONTENT

 

The history of pacing.

The effect of heart blocks on the conduction system.

Indications for temporary pacing.

Types of temporary pacemakers.

Bradycardia pacing.

Anti tachycardia devices.

Pacing for heart failure.

Early complications following pacemaker implant.

Ongoing advice to patients following implant.

 

AIMS AND OUTCOMES

 

At the end of the course the practitioner will be able to:

  • Plan appropriate care based on upon the risk associated with the presenting patient
  • Utilise a range of data gained and manage the care of the patient
