This course enables participants to develop essential patient management skills that are necessary for identifying and managing the safe care of a patient requiring cardiac catheterisation.

Indications and contraindications; complications and associated risk

Cardiac catheters & pressure transducers

 

Left heart:

Catheterisation procedures

Ventriculography and aortography

Pressure measurements & recording technique

Coronary Angiography & Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA)

 

Right heart:

Catheterisation procedures

Pressure measurements & recording technique

Measuring oxygen saturation

Measurement of cardiac output

 

AIMS AND OUTCOMES

 

At the end of the course the practitioner will be able to:

  • Plan appropriate care based on upon the risk associated with the presenting patient
  • Utilise a range of data gained from a variety of investigations to effectively manage the care of the patient
