20 years of M&K!

It was 1992 in Chester when A&E nurses Mike Roberts and Ken Russell set up M&K Update Services in response to a lack of credible CPD. The PREP project was in its infancy and the then national boards lacked a programme of short courses UK-wide.

The first M&K project was a national conference aimed at A&E, and then came ECG and haemodynamic workshops, legal courses and the portfolio grew!
Prior to becoming registered nurses Mike had a background as a medic in the armed forces and Ken as an ambulance technician, their partners, a phlebotomist and a midwife still work within the health service.

Today M&K is regarded as the UK’s leading provider of credible and up to date short courses aimed at all health professionals.

Mike and Ken still head the company which has a dedicated and experienced administration team based in the Lake District.

Now as M&K Update Ltd the company not only offers over 50 short courses all over the UK and Ireland, services include national conferences, publishing and through a KTP project gaining Government funding the company will be launching e-Learning in 2012.

Working with M&K

Clinical experts with a proven teaching track record deliver courses. Books are edited and written by clinicians and academics and it is from these areas we will be drawing from to develop the e-learning portfolio.

If you are looking for freelance teaching work, have an idea for a book or would like to be considered as an e-learning contributor we would like to hear from you - tutors@mkupdate.co.uk

Working In New Ways

In addition to the UK-wide programme of open courses you find listed in this brochure we run in excess of 400 training days at clients’ premises, through our In-House service, details can be found at - M&K InHouse

Partnerships & Flexibility

In 2011 a North England community trust queried whether we would consider running training in their locality as opposed to the nearest city. Soon and working with the Trust we developed a portfolio specific to their training need, the courses are open to external candidates and are proving a great success.

Similarly a Health Centre in South East England asked if we would consider utilising their facilities to run courses, again working with the centre to market locally the venue is proving extremely popular.

Competency

Courses are geared so that on completion you will be well prepared to return to your clinical area to practice under supervision and work towards competence. We also include guidance on this.
