A practical skills masterclass for healthcare professionals involved in the care and assessment of patients with ophthalmic problems.
There are only 16 places available for each session.
As with all practical skills, it is essential that every clinician who undertakes the skill has a theoretical base on which to base their practice. This ensures thinking practice, enables troubleshooting and an awareness of what is going right...and wrong!
The participants will learn the principles of assessment, examination and the correct and safe use of fields and biometry machines. Clinical skills such as slit lamp examination and removal of foreign bodies will be demonstrated and practiced in a safe environment. This masterclass then, will equip participants with the knowledge on which to base their practice. A theoretical background to each skill will be followed by a practical demonstration of the skill with time for the participant to practice the skills and achieve an initial level of comfort with equipment and routines which can then be honed within their practice area.
This day will enable the participant to gain an understanding of some fundamental skills in ophthalmology clinics, emergency departments and day case units, away from the pressured atmosphere of the workplace with expert instruction and peer support.
