Minor Injuries
For nurses and allied healthcare professionals who need to develop look and feel assessment and a good understanding of mechanism of injury skills.
This course provides an excellent underpinning of knowledge on the most common presenting injuries and conditions encountered those who manage and treat adults with a minor injury.
Course Content
Clinical history taking and recording
Mechanism of injury – general principles of musculoskeletal trauma
Assessment of injury – look, feel move examination
Indications for radiography
Musculo-skeletal injury and management
Review of anatomy and physiology and healing of bone and soft connective tissue
Shoulder and upper limb: Hip and lower limb
Management of common fractures
Head, neck and back: - Level of consciousness: GCS , NICE (SIGN in Scotland) head injury guidelines
Ophthalmic and ENT – common presenting conditions and their management
Minor wounds and burns
Review of anatomy: wound closure, healing and appropriate dressings
Legal and professional responsibility
