Verification of Expected Death

For nurses who need to develop their skills and knowledge on the implications of RECORDING A FACT OF DEATH. Attendees will need to be competent in performing physical examination.

Course Content

Clinical examination following suspected death:
- the fundi
- the pupils
- the chest

Exclusion of possible foul play

Examination of:
- the neck for bruising
- the eyes for petechiae
- complete body assessment

Legal and professional responsibility
- Recording a Fact of Death correctly
- Breaking bad news and communication with the bereaved relatives

Aims/Outcomes

  • Develop the skills required in determining expected death
  • Fully understand legal requirements of recording a fact of death
