Developing Practice in Urology
This programme develops assessment and management skills in urology and progresses towards the competencies required for expanding clinical roles within this speciality.
Course Content
Day 1
Review of Anatomy and Physiology
Urological assessment
Continence assessment and case studies
Use of bladder scanners and practical demonstration
Urinary catheterisation including suprapubic and nephrostomy tubes and practical demonstration
Care of the catheterised patient
Teaching patients intermittent self catheterisation
Day 2
Prostate assessment
Management and treatment of male lower urinary tract symptoms
Urological cancers
Digital rectal simulator, prostate specific antigen explained.
Treating advanced prostate cancer and practical demonstrations on the administration of LHRH analogues. (Zoladex and prostap)
The importance of the Oncology MDT
Erectile Dysfunction clinics (nurse-led)
Treating ED. (including practical demonstrations)
Practical workshops will include
Male and female urethral catheterisation
Suprapubic catheterisation
Nephrostomy tubes
Post micturition ultrasound scan
Teaching intermittent self catheterisation
Digital rectal examination
Administration of LHRH analogues
Administration of intravesical chemotherapy
Administration of intracavernosal drugs
