Abdominal Assessment Masterclass
The class concentrates on developing abdominal examination and interviewing technique and an understanding an array of gastro-intestinal and urinary conditions.
Course Content
Advanced understanding of Gastro-intestinal and Urinary Tract
Abdominal symptoms: appetite, constipation, diarrhoea, dysphagia, gastrointestinal bleed, vomiting, weight loss
Abdominal conditions including: Appendicitis, Ascites, Obstruction, Diverticulosis, Hernia
Changes associated with ageing
Liver disease: signs and symptoms, liver failure
Abdominal history taking and physical examination technique: Inspection; Auscultation; Percussion; Palpation, Tenderness
Identifying specific organs: Bladder, Colonic swellings, Kidney, Liver & gallbladder, Pancreas, Splenic enlargement, the Stomach
Abdominal pain: localising and understanding underlying possible cause
Rectal examination.
Urological examination: clinical history; signs and symptoms of common urological conditions, prostate examination
Aims/Outcomes
- To develop an enhanced working knowledge of examining the abdomen.
