End of Life Care MASTERCLASS

17 June 2011, Manchester Conference Centre - £199.00

This masterclass is for all staff who care for patients who are dying, exploring the needs of patients/families, and introducing the skills, knowledge and attitudes which can enhance the care of those affected. The day will enable attendees to identify the dying process and how to commence and use the Care of the Dying Pathway.

The course will help improve care quality and examine admission avoidance where appropriate.

The afternoon enhances the day further by offering a choice of three expert-led highly interactive and practical workshops, where candidates will have the opportunity to challenge and clarify complexities within each of the three subject areas.

Candidates will have the choice to attend two of the three workshops.

Masterclass Workshops

  1. Improving the identification of patients at the end of life across all settings and diagnosis - Laura Strumidlo
  2. Withdrawing and withholding treatment - Chantel Patel
  3. Developments in End of Life Care focusing on the LCP - Jill Gale

Masterclass Faculty

  • Laura Strumidlo, Senior Lecturer in End of Life Care at Coventry University
  • Chantel Patel , Chantel lectures on all aspects of medical law and ethics to undergraduates and postgraduates at the College of Health and Human Sciences at Swansea University.
  • Jill Gale , Macmillan End of Life Care Discharge Sister, which involves various initiatives for End of Life Care.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Senior Nurses (Band 7 & 8)
  • Strategic Nurses - such as those working at Director level - writing Hospital Policy
  • Lead Nurses & Matrons - responsible for operational developments
  • Managers responsible for implementing the High Impact Nursing Actions
  • Capacity or Bed Managers
